MetaGone removes GPS location and hidden metadata from your photos before you share them. Everything runs locally on your Mac — nothing is uploaded.

Where do the cleaned files go?
To ~/Downloads/MetaGone by default. You can pick any folder in Settings (⌘,).
Are my originals modified?
No — MetaGone only writes copies. Originals are never touched.
What gets removed?
GPS/location, EXIF (camera, lens, dates), maker notes, IPTC and XMP metadata,
and the text fields a PNG can carry (author, copyright, software, description).
What file types are supported?
JPEG, HEIC, HEIF, PNG, TIFF and GIF. (HEIF is saved as HEIC, since that's the writable form.)
Animated GIFs and multi-page TIFFs aren't supported — single-frame images only.
RAW files (DNG, CR2, …) aren't supported: they can't be re-saved without losing
their RAW data, so MetaGone leaves them to a dedicated RAW editor.
Will the image look different?
No. The picture, quality and orientation stay the same — only the hidden data is removed.
HDR photos keep their gain map, so the cleaned copy still displays in HDR.
Why did a file's name change?
MetaGone never writes over a file that already exists. A copy landing in the
original's own folder gets a “_clean” suffix; if the name is taken for any
other reason, a number is added (photo-2.jpg). Otherwise the
original name is kept.
Does MetaGone use the internet?
Never. It works fully offline and sends nothing anywhere.
Can I use it without a mouse?
Yes. Tab moves to the drop zone (turn on Full Keyboard Access in System
Settings › Accessibility › Keyboard), Space opens the photo picker, and
Return starts the cleanup. VoiceOver reads the queue, the progress and every
result.
